Aramaic New Testament

The Aramaic English New Testament (AENT) is the most ancient New Testament Bible that exists in the language of Y’shua and the Apostles. Aramaic is far more precise than Greek translations of the New Testament, I’m happy to provide hundreds of examples. Those who study with an AENT Bible know what I’m talking about. The Greek New Testament is a translation of Aramaic and Hebrew thought, culture and writ.

Those who believe the New Testament was originally penned in Greek often point to the Apostle Paul, they assume an Apostle to the Gentiles would have written letters in Greek to a Greek speaking audience.

“But (it is) to you Gentiles, I am speaking: as I am a Shaliach (Messenger / Gk. Apostolos) to the Gentiles, I honor my ministry.” Romans 11:13

But look what Paul says in the context of the next two verses.

“If, perhaps, I may provoke emulation in the children of my flesh and may revive some of them. For if the rejection of them was a reconciliation of the world, what will their conversion be but life from the dead?” Romans 11:14-15

A survey of Paul’s travels indicates that he did an outstanding job when it came to Jewish provocation.  Paul saw no contradiction between being a “ringleader” of the Netzarim and a Pharisee.  He stated, “Men, my Brothers; I am a Pharisee the son of a Pharisee; and for the hope of the resurrection of the dead, I am judged” Acts 23:6 (see also Acts 26:5; Phil 3:5). In Acts 21 Paul renounces false allegations that he was forsaking Moses by doing away with Torah and he made public witness with a sacrifice at the Temple demonstrating he walked upright in Torah Acts 21:24-27.  Also notice in Acts 21:25 that all the Apostles including Paul gave halachic (way to observe Torah) directives for Gentiles to abstain from 1) food offered to idols (see also 1 Cor 8:10; 10:19-21)  2) blood 3) eating meat from strangled animals and 4) fornication, all very solid Torah instruction.  Paul lived a Torah observant life as a Jewish follower of Y’shua, but let’s take note of his lifestyle.

Acts 17 begins with Paul’s traditional Shabbat observance in Thessalonica where on 3 Shabbats he went to synagogue and taught Mashiyach. Verse 10 Paul is in the synagogue in Berea and many Jews believed and likewise Greeks. Verse 17 Paul is observing Shabbat in a synagogue in Athens and reaching out to all souls in the marketplace.  Acts 18  Paul arrives in Corinth and takes lodgings with Aquila a Jew.  Verse 4 every Shabbat Paul is in synagogue. Verse 7 Titus built his house on the wall of the synagogue, and we read Crispus the president of the synagogue, his family and many others became followers of Mashiyach Y’shua.  Acts 18:24 a Jew named Apollos teams up with Paul and we learn that Apollos was “well taught in the Scriptures.”  Scriptures of course means “The Scriptures” otherwise known as Torah, Neviim and Ketuvim or the Old Testament.  Acts 19:8 Paul is in synagogue at Ephesus 3 months “persuading in regard to the Kingdom of Heaven.”

In the AENT appendix under Rav Shaul (Apostle Paul) subheading Paul the Traveler is a list of some of the synagogues Paul visited such as Thessaly, Beoetia, Macedonia, Aetolia, Attica, Argos, Philippi, Thessalonica, Veroia, Athens and Corinth. Paul visited locations with large Jewish communities, there were synagogues throughout much of the Peloponnese, and also on the islands of Euboea and Crete.

Paul had authority as Jewish teacher and was received in many synagogues to teach because of his knowledge of Torah and rabbinical Judaism, and you don’t get there by studying Greek.  It would have been a nightmare if Paul or any other Jew would have attempted to teach the Kingdom of Heaven in Greek to “children of his own flesh.”

Paul most certainly ministered to Gentiles but his teachings also had a long term impact on Judaism. Some of Paul’s teachings show up in rabbinical works such as Zohar, hundreds of years later.  The AENT points to many of Paul’s Aramaic teachings that were never carried in Greek translations, the only way a person would understand the intricacies is if they were schooled in Torah and Jewish thought.

The Zohar was written in Aramaic, what is said to be an “exalted, eccentric style” of Second Temple period (500 BC-70 CE) Aramaic.  Aramaic was the day to day language of that period, which is why Talmud, Targums, Ketubahs, Josephus’ and Bar Kochba’s letters were written in Aramaic. If Paul had written spiritual matters in Greek he would have greatly reduced the value and importance of his message.  A Commentary of the Jewish Roots of Romans by Joseph Shulam and the Jewish New Testament by David Stern collectively provide hundreds of examples of underlying Hebraic and Tanakh elements underneath Greek translations.

From the time Paul first began his ministry (circa 37 CE) until he was beheaded in 67 CE, he customarily attended synagogues wherever he travelled.  Every synagogue has a Torah scroll, and the Prophets and Writings; it is from these scrolls that Paul taught Y’shua.  In Acts 22:20 Apostle Paul testified that he was standing by and consenting to Stephens death, just before Stephen died he cried out, “You have received Torah by way of the command of Messengers and you have not kept it!” (Acts 7:53) Apostle Paul would never forget those words and in Romans he teaches Jews and Gentiles, “Do, we then nullify Torah by faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish Torah.” (Romans 3:31).

Apostle Paul studied under Gamaliel who is well-known in the Talmud as the grandson of the great Rabbi Hillel the First, the architect of Oral Law.  Gamaliel authored a sophisticated parody of the Gospel of Matthew before his death in the year 73 CE.  The Kansas City Star, January 7, 2004, columnist Neil Altman wrote: “In an essay written for the book Passover and Easter: Origin and History to Modern Times, Israel J. Yuval of Jerusalem’s Hebrew University reported a find in the Talmud that appears to show Matthew could have been written earlier than some scholars contend. Yuval wrote that a leading rabbinical scholar of the time was “considered to have authored a sophisticated parody of the Gospel according to Matthew.” The parody, written by a rabbi known as Gamaliel, is believed by some well-respected liberal Christian scholars to have been written about A.D. 73 or earlier.” The Mishnah (Sotah 15:18) states: “Since Rabban Gamaliel the Elder died, there has been no more reverence for the law, and purity and piety died out at the same time.”

Paul was intimately familiar with the prophecies of Mashiyach bringing blessings to both Jew and Gentile and how Jews would close their eyes to Mashiyach according to Isaiah 6:9-10. One of the greatest mysteries in Scripture is “the blindness” that has befallen the “natural branches.” There is much speculation as to whether it is because of stiff necked religious identity Jewish pride, or because the Master of the Universe divinely orchestrated such blindness, or both. Regardless of our opinions, Apostle Paul treats Jew and Goyee (those of the nations) with equal weight when he says, “For if Elohim spared not the natural branches, perhaps he will not spare you. Behold now the goodness and the severity of Elohim: on them who fell, severity; but on you, goodness, if you continue in that goodness; and if not, you also will be plucked off. And they, if they do not continue in their poverty of faith, even they will be grafted in; for Elohim is able to graft them in again. For if you were plucked from the wild olive-tree which was natural to you, and were grafted, contrary to your nature, into a good olive-tree; how much more may they be grafted into their natural olive-tree? (For I want you to know this) mystery, that blindness of heart has in some measure befallen Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles will come in:” (Romans 11:21-25).

The fullness of the Gentiles coming into the Kingdom of Elohim is a key element to the return of Mashiyach, however there are two vital components for this fullness. The promise was given to Avraham that, “In your seed (Mashiyach) shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.” (Genesis 22:18). This follows through prophetically from Genesis 3:15, “between your seed and her seed; he will bruise your head, and you will bruise their heel” (Gen 3:15), referring to the seed of woman (Mashiyach) who would bruise the head of the Serpent (Deceiver). YHWH sent Mashiyach for all human life; “All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to YHWH, And all the families of the Goy (nations) will worship before you. For the kingdom is YHWH’s, And He rules over the Goy (nations).” (Psalm 22:27-28). He also says, “Be still, and know that I am Elohim: I will be exalted among the Goy (nations), I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10). Specifically, “And it shall come to pass in that day, that the root of Jesse will stand as an ensign of the peoples, unto him shall the Goy (nations) seek; and his resting-place shall be glorious.” (Isa 11:10). The Gentiles or nations are part of His sheepfold, “And he said, It is a light thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the natsar (preserved) of Israel: I will also give you for a light to the Goyee (nations), that you may be Yeshuati (My Salvation) unto the ends of the earth.” (Isa 49:6) Again, “And Goyee (nations) will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.” (Isaiah 60:3). And again, “I permitted Myself to be sought by those who did not ask for Me; I permitted Myself to be found by those who did not seek Me. I said, ‘Here am I, here am I,’ to a Goyee (nation) which did not call on My name.” (Isaiah 65:1). However, Yisrael also has a part in bringing in the fullness of the Gentiles as Jeremiah says, “If you will return, O Israel, says YHWH, yes, return to Me; and if you will put away your detestable things out of My sight, and will not waver; And will swear: ‘As YHWH lives’ in truth, in justice, and in righteousness; then shall the Goyee (nations) bless themselves by Him, and in Him shall they glory.” (Jeremiah 4:1-2). Without a doubt Apostle Paul knew that Mashiyach would not return until he hears, “Baruch haba b’Shem YHWH” (Blessed is he who comes in the Name of YHWH) Psalm 118:6. When the nations receive Mashiyach according to the Kingdom of Elohim, then the fullness of the Gentiles will come in. The charter of Y’shua’s Government is the Spirit and Truth of Torah written upon the heart.

Paul’s spirituality and teachings are based in Aramaic and Hebrew, these are the languages Paul used to teach Jews and Christians about the Kingdom of Heaven, not Greek.

Adolf Hitler wrote, that people “more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie… the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down.”

Christian religious leaders who haven’t been schooled in Hebrew and Aramaic, never stepped foot in a synagogue, never learned traditional Jewish prayer and Jewish spirituality but claim to know “all about” Apostle Paul are not being honest.  The reality is that Greco Roman Christians have “Hellenized the Jewish Apostle out of Paul” to suit Greco-Roman religious lifestyles and theologies.

The AENT brings the reader back to Shaul who spoke of his service to both the Gentile world and as he stated, “the children of my flesh” by turning Paul into a Christo-Pagan Hellenist the Christian world has done the greatest of dishonors to the one they claim to love and respect as their Apostle.
